Demonstrating progressive values

Kim Olson, Colonel, USAF retired, is a 25-year combat veteran, trail-blazer in the first generation of female military pilots and a staunch advocate for Democratic values. She has experience running for office at the local, state, and federal level.

In 2020, she ran in Texas’ 24th, an urban/suburban Congressional District, winning a 7-way primary, but losing the run-off. In 2018, Kim ran statewide for Texas Agriculture Commissioner, garnering more votes than any woman in the state’s history, visiting 244 counties in 17 months and deepening her understanding of issues affecting the majority of the state.

She also successfully ran and served two terms (2007-2010) on a suburban school board, which was recognized as School Board of the Year. She’s an author, whose book Iraq and Back, Inside the War to Win the Peace was published by Naval Institute Press and is a top seller. She’s been featured on CNN, FOX radio, local and national talk shows, at universities and colleges, various clubs, and business training sessions across the country.

A strong advocate for women veterans, she founded Grace After Fire, a non-profit dedicated to helping women veterans gain equitable access to care. In her tenure, she helped over 6,000 women and started a movement nation-wide to address veteran issues. Kim founded WomenWin, a Political Action Committee that supported over 100 women candidates by training, funding, and supporting women across Texas.

She serves on a number of political, food security, and veteran-focused boards.  As part of the first generation of Air Force’s women pilots, she rose to the rank of Colonel, and while serving in the Pentagon, survived 9/11.

Olson’s trail-blazing career, unapologetic advocacy for veterans, and her selfless public service earned her an induction into the Iowa Aviation Hall of Fame, Business Press’s Texas Woman of Influence and the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame. She holds three Master’s Degrees, MIT Seminar XXI and Board Superintendent Academy graduate.

Today, Olson works to train the next generation of political leaders, fund raises for candidates and teaches on her sustainable ranch, which grows organic pecans and fruit next to the Brazos River near Mineral Wells, Texas.
